Bristol, June 18 - The Bristol Transformed festival held a panel on the recently approved Family Code in our country. The event discussed how the new Code adjusts to the social reality of today's Cuba, and highlighted how the concept of family and the family environment is built on the basis of affective relationships. Furthermore, it elaborated on other issues such as parental responsibility, and the guarantee of rights and obligations for all, including those who were previously invisible before the law, such as same-sex couples.
The panelists concluded that this has been possible due to the Cuba’s socialist system of democracy, which made it possible for the Code to be submitted to a process of consultation and referendum for its approval.
The panel included the participation of Michel Rodríguez, First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy in London, and members of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign, Wendy Emmet, and Joe Wilson.
Bristol Transformed is a grassroot festival of socialist politics, arts and culture that takes place every year. The event brings together activists, trade unionists and figures on the left and provides spaces for the debate on topical issues.
