Nicosia, June 23, 2026. The Foreign Minister of Cyprus, Mr Constantinos Kombos, received this Tuesday in a courtesy visit the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Rubén Pino Martínez, at the local foreign ministry headquarters.
The Cuban ambassador thanked the head of Cypriot diplomacy for the welcome extended amid his busy work schedule, particularly in the context of the ongoing commitments undertaken by Cyprus as part of its presidency of the Council of the European Union during the first half of the current year.
Pino Martínez offered Chancellor Kombos an update on the difficult economic and energy situation that his country is currently facing, worsened by the prolonged and genocidal blockade imposed by the U.S. government against the island, in addition to its recent executive orders of January 29 and May 1 of this year, which cause significant damage and affect the daily life of the Cuban population.
For his part, the host chancellor reaffirmed the historic friendship between Cuba and Cyprus, reiterated his country's unwavering stance regarding the blockade against Cuba, supported by the resolutions approved by the United Nations General Assembly and governed by the principles of international law, while also highlighting the closeness and spirit of understanding that have characterized bilateral ties over the years.
After discussing various topics of bilateral and multilateral interest in a cordial and constructive environment, the minister of foreign affairs wished Ambassador Pino Martínez success during his tenure with the Cuban diplomatic mission in Cyprus. He also reiterated that the doors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will always be open to continue strengthening relations between the two countries, fully in line with the mutual desire to work together to reinforce the historic bonds of friendship and cooperation that have united the two nations for more than six decades.
