From Cyprus, voices of solidarity against the blockade are joined.

Nicosia, October 20, 2022. - On the afternoon of October 19, 2022, at the monument dedicated to the National Hero of Cuba, José Martí located in the center of Nicosia (Stasinou 27, Nicosia 1060), several friends of Cuba gathered to call for the lifting of the unjust, inhumane and genocidal blockade imposed by the US on Cuba, more than 60 years ago.

Vera Policarpou, Secretary of the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association and Head of International Relations of AKEL expressed the solidarity of the Cypriot people on behalf of the Friendship Association, while stressing the importance of maintaining support for Cuba against the blockade.

The parliamentarian, Aristos Damianou said that Cyprus will stand by the Cuban people and government in the struggle against an unjust and unprecedented policy in the history of mankind, which attempts to bring to its knees people who rise up every day to fight for their wellbeing.

For his part, Cuban Ambassador Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero thanked those present for the solidarity of the Cypriot people and government in the struggle against the US blockade against Cuba. He stressed that the blockade is inhuman and criminal against people who are willing to fight every day for the improvement of their economy and that it has been used as a tool of pressure in the midst of an international economic crisis, particularly marked by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cuban diplomat announced that on November 2 and 3, for the thirtieth time, the United Nations General Assembly will evaluate the Resolution that Cuba presents every year on the effects of the blockade and that he is sure that the world will once again stand up with Cuba and against the blockade.

Participating in the demonstration, which once again showed solidarity with the Cuban people, were the Ambassador of Palestine in Cyprus, Abdallah Attari; the MP and Secretary General of the Progressive Party of the Working People of Cyprus (AKEL), Stefanous Stefanou; the also MP and member of the CC of AKEL, Giorgos Koukoumas; the Secretary General of the Pan Cypriot Federation of Labor (PEO), Sotiroula Charalambous; the General Secretary of the Trade Union International of Building, Wood and Building Materials Workers (UITBB) and Deputy General Secretary of PEO, Michalis Papanikolaou; the member of the Central Committee of the United Democratic Youth Organization (EDON), Stavros Agathos, members of the board of the POGO Women's Movement, a representation of the Farmers' Association, members of PEO, of AKEL, of the Women's Movement, among other friends.

At the end of the event, everyone united in one voice to demand the end of the blockade on #Cuba, because the Cuban people have the right to live #BetterWithoutBlockade.
