Helsinki, October 7, 2024.- With the traditional ringing of the bell in La Demajagua, the Day of Cuban Culture will be inaugurated on October 10, which will extend until the 20th, in honor of the 120th anniversary of the birth of the prominent intellectual Alejo Carpentier and art instructors of all generations. Lizette Martínez Luzardo, Deputy Minister of Culture of Cuba, told the Cuban News Agency that the activities in the Cuban capital will begin this Thursday with the presentation of the documentary Comunidad, by Claudio Peláez Sordo, at the Yara cinema, accompanied by a show by the National Folklore Ensemble.
Martínez Luzardo highlighted the tribute to Carpentier by the Haitian Association of the Greater Antilles with drum beats in 14 settlements, parks, spaces and cultural institutions with folklore groups, scheduled for the same day, October 10, and the presentation on October 11 of children's songs in all the schools of the country to remember the legacy of the musician and composer Joseíto Fernández (1908-1979) on the 45th anniversary of his death.
The program of activities will be expressed in all the provinces through exhibitions, interpretations of children's songs, concerts, book presentations, film screenings and other artistic and educational activities. The event will ratify Cuban culture as a mosaic of the reflection of history, the struggle, and each one of the desires of our country.
