DAY OF HOMAGE TO FIDEL IN CYPRUS

Cyprus, November 25, 2017.- The  Progressive Party of the Working People (AKEL, according to its acronym in Greek), the Embassy of Cuba in Cyprus, the Cyprus - Cuba Friendship Association and the Club Doxa,  organized on Friday 24 November a day of remembrance of the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, one year after his physical disappearance.

The AKEL Political Bureau Member, Stefanos Stefanou, was in charge of the inauguration of the activities and highlighted the role played by Fidel in the Cuban revolutionary process and its leading role in the international sphere. He also delved into various actions led by the Commander in Chief, from the landing of the Granma yacht to the revolutionary triumph of 1959.

On his part, the Cuban Ambassador in Cyprus, Omar Leyva Rafull, in his speech, highlighted the exemplary nature that always characterized the actions of Fidel, who inculcated his people to defend the noble causes and to oppose injustice, never to lie and to carry our collaboration and internationalist ideas to the most distant corners of the world.

The Day will also include, in the coming days, a photographic exhibition and placement of floral offerings on the monuments of Fidel and Martí.
