Pretria, January 19, 2021.- On behalf of the Cuban Residents in South Africa it is make this declaration, to unite our voices to many others across the world and many organizations that have expressed their public disapproval and condemnation of the cruel economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States of America for many years.
As well as take this opportunity to express our indignation against the recent announcement by the American Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, which include Cuba in the list of countries which sponsors terrorism. To include Cuba in the above-mentioned list is a shameful, undignified act. Its main purpose is to further problematize and create obstacles to any diplomatic relations or dialogue, expressed by the next government of the United States, headed by Joe Biden.
The sanctions of the United States against our beloved land are a violation of human rights; ensure an expert of the United Nations.
Differences in policies and political positions between governments should not be resolved by causing economic and humanitarian disasters on the civil population. The code of conduct and principles of international relations have never accepted any change of government or “soft coups” through economic measures the lead to the violation of human rights and can lead to famine and hunger in any country.
The world is in crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated the life of millions of people. This virus does not see ideology, geography, political power or races. Cuban doctors have been on the forefront of this pandemic. They have gone to give assistance without considering any of the above-mentioned factors. It is time the world acknowledges this great service. This is the time for solidarity!
Taking this into account, how can Cuba be a country that sponsors terrorism? The Cuban brigade, Henry Reeve has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, due to its contribution to the preservation of human lives.
Cuba is not perfect. It is true, like many other countries we have our problems, but they should be resolved by the Cuban people and its government.
End of blockade!
It is time to reflect, to build bridges between peoples of all nations not barriers!
Cuba saves people. Cuba can!
Long live Cuba!
