On 15 May, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a statement denouncing Cuba's unjust continued inclusion on the List of countries that sponsor terrorism.
It is important to highlight that, although Cuba continues to appear on this list, it does not appear in the report to Congress, sent by the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, on the countries that "do not fully cooperate with US counter-terrorism efforts in the calendar year 2023".
The Association of Cubans Residing in Cyprus wishes to underline the difference between these two lists and reiterates its firm rejection of the inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism. This unfounded accusation is not only baseless, but is also used as a pretext to implement measures that greatly harm the Cuban people, including those of us living abroad. These measures add to the already devastating consequences of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on our nation.
We also call for the intensification of the efforts of the international solidarity movement and Cubans living all over the world, including those of us living in Cyprus, to demand the immediate exclusion of Cuba from this unjust list and to put an end to all measures that are part of the blockade. The inclusion of Cuba on this list is an act that not only affects the island, but also impacts the Cuban diaspora, limiting our opportunities and our ability to contribute to the development of our homeland.
As the MINREX Statement points out, the President of the United States has every prerogative to act honestly and rectify this situation. We urge that the necessary steps be taken to reverse this injustice and improve relations between our countries, thus allowing for a future of peace and prosperity for all.
The Association of Cubans Resident in Cyprus remains firm in its commitment to support our country and to fight for justice and truth. We will continue to work tirelessly for the lifting of all measures affecting our people and for the recognition of the true peaceful and supportive nature of Cuba.
