SOLIDARITY WITH CUBA

The Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba remains in force and the restrictions imposed by the policy continue to be applied.

In spite of measures adopted by President Barack Obama since 17th December, 2015 and his repeated calls on Congress to lift the Blockade, the main laws and regulations supporting the Blockade against Cuba continue to be in force and are being applied rigorously by the US Government agencies especially the Department of the Treasury and Commerce and in particular by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

During the visit to Havana by President Barack Obama in March 2016 he acknowledged once more that the Blockade policy towards the Island was obsolete and must be eliminated.

The economic repercussions on the Cuban people due to the application of the Blockade of the United States against Cuba since the policy began to be applied over 50 years ago has caused damages of over 125 Billion 875 Million dollars at current prices.

The blockade should never have existed and it must cease once and for all.

The Blockade is the principal cause of Cuba’s economic problems, the principle obstacle to Cuba’s development. The damages include income that the people of Cuba never saw, that the country never saw through the goods and services that they never exported particularly from the bio-pharmacological industry.

As a result of the Blockade Cuba has to use currencies other than the Dollar because of the ban on using the Dollar in international transactions.

Cuban banks cannot have corresponding Accounts in the USA Banks, an indispensable requirement in order to maintain sustainable financial relations.

They continue to maintain the prohibition of importation of Cuban goods and services in the US including medications and biotechnology products.

Cuban Citizens and Companies from other countries continue to be on the arbitrary list that prevents transactions with US Companies and their subsidiaries.

US Citizens continue to be prohibited from traveling to Cuba for tourism purposes as a result of the threats of penal and administrative sanctions

This year on 26 or 27 October Cuba will once again be forced to present its annual motion to the United Nations General Assembly protesting against the illegal United States Blockade which continues unabated despite the restoration of Diplomatic links and the visit of President of President Barack Obama to Cuba.

This year’s motion will mark the 25th Consecutive year that the United Nations General Assembly will have called upon the USA to lift the Blockade. We note that the result of last year’s motion by Cuba was 191 Countries voted YES; Two Countries voted no (USA and Israel) and there were no abstentions.

We join the call of the rest of the worlds peace loving people to demand from the Congress of the United States of America to lift the over 50 years of the Blockade against Cuba.

We have full confidence that this unjust measure cannot last for much longer and just like the return to Cuba of Elian Gonzalez and the release of the Cuban Five so too will the blockade against Cuba be lifted and demolished.

The US Blockade against Cuba is a violation of International Law and a massive, flagrant and systematic violation of the Human Rights of the Cuban People.

We support the call by Cuba for the return of the territory illegally occupied by the US Naval Base in Guantanamo.

We also support Cuba’s call to end the US immigration policy of “wet-foot dry-foot”.
