Declaration by South African Association of Graduated in Cuba on the USA Economic Blockade against Cuba

Pretoria, 9 July, 2019.- We the graduates of Cuba constituted mostly by doctors, health sector professionals and other professions such as engineering, economics, the military, education and others, hereby condemn the economic aggressive inhumane sanctions against the peaceful Republic of Cuba which have been rejected by the international community represented by the United Nation as from 1992 every year until this year (2018) in November.

Our South African Parliament in August 2014 passed a resolution calling upon the then USA President to lift the blockade immediately and engage Cuba more positively. It is absolutely regrettable that today the improvement of the relationship efforts that were started by President Obama are being regressed by the current USA President, Donald Trump.

We note that the fundamental essence of the blockade to cripple Cuba economically, commercially and financially which is the core of the hostile policy is still intact.

This blockade which violates the international law is a transgression of the right to peace and to the development and security of a sovereign state. It is an act of unilateral aggression and a permanent threat to Cuba’s national stability and by so doing a violation of the sovereignty of many other nations by its extraterritorial nature.

We further declare that we will maintain together with other progressive formations or structures in our country awareness to our government the need to isolate the USA and its supporter Israel with regards to the evil blockade and mobilise international solidarity in favour of the People’s Republic of Cuba.

We will always unapologetically remind the South Africans and the international community what our first democratic President of South Africa said while visiting Cuba in 1991 on the 26th of July with the Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution, President Fidel Castro being next to him that Cuba unselfishly contributed a lot towards our liberation, the independence of Namibia and also the establishment of sovereignty and stability in Angola with no economic interest at all but allegiance to the blood relationship due to slavery that we all dearly cherish as the African continent.

If this humble, humane and internationalist nation carried back to its country from the Battles of Solidarity in Africa like the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale in Angola as our President said, it was only the dead bodies of its sons which amounted to more than two thousand only in Angola.

Lastly we would like to thank Cuba once more for the education that it offered us and so many of our colleagues that studied earlier and after us from different parts of the world.

We are also thankful of the assistance that Cuba offered to send many doctors to come to our country and help our democratic government to establish a broad based health care system inclusive to all more especially the underprivileged.

This spirit of Revolutionary internationalism and solidaritywith others also saw other professionals in many other fields such as hydraulic engineers to assist in water reticulation in South Africa, military specialists, academics in education and many other fields including in the cultural sphere parting knowledge to our people and at times educating educators.

Hence lastly we declare that we will always support the Cuban Revolution and always mobilise our nation and other nations of our beautiful continent and the world to be opposed to this USA inhuman, irrational and diabolic blockade against a peaceful nation of Cuba.

Viva! The Spirit of Comrade Fidel Castro Viva!

Viva! The Spirit of Comrade Nelson Mandela Viva! Amandla!!!
