Dedicated to Fidel Castro, nineteenth graduation ceremony of young people from St. Kitts and Nevis who graduated from Cuban universities.
Basseterre, October 20, 2025: The traditional ceremony that recognizes the effort and dedication of young nationals who conclude their university studies in Cuba and return to their homeland, this year had a special connotation added to its meaning itself, and that is that it was dedicated to the centenary of the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.
Under the slogan "Creating medicine, an avenue for sustainability," the Cuban Alumni Association organized the activity with a focal point connecting the figure of Fidel linked to issues such as solidarity, unity, cooperation, and brotherhood among our peoples.
Led by the Honourable Dr. Terrance M. Drew, Prime Minister of the Federation and active member of this Association, the ceremony had several speakers who dedicated part of their dissertation emphasizing the importance of the Commander's ideas and their materialization in the progress of Latin American, Caribbean, African and Asian nations.
Drew recalled Fidel's phrase that recognizes doctors as "evangelists and creators of a more humane world."
For his part, the Honourable Minister Samal Duggins, in charge of the Culture portfolio among others, addressing the graduates, pondered the legacy of the revolutionary leader thanks to whom they had the possibility of studying university careers.
Hollis Prentice, president of the Graduate Association, expressed gratitude and certain commitment to Cuba. He emphasized that the values of our society transcend borders and stand as Fidel's undisputable work.
Ambassador David Rivero, giving a bit of history, shared information with those present about the creation of the Latin American School of Medical Sciences, born of two terrible hurricanes that hit the Caribbean and Central America in 1998, causing a considerable number of fatalities and incalculable material damage. This institution, according to Fidel, would stand as "simple symbol of what we can achieve together, a modest contribution from Cuba to the unity and integration of the peoples represented there."
Ending the ceremony, in an emotional moment, Dr. Jeffvancia Matthew representing the new graduates and moved by all the above, dedicated heartfelt words of gratitude to Cuba and its people with immense affection.
Attending were also family and friends of the graduates, representatives of the associations that make up the solidarity movement with Cuba and members of the Cuban Medical Brigade.
