Demands in Washington D.C. to lift the blockade against Cuba

With the presence of Cuban Ambassador José Ramón Cabañas Rodríguez, the main event of the Days of Action against the Blockade organized by the International Committee for Peace, Justice and Dignity of the Peoples along with other organizations of solidarity with Cuba in the United States, took place on September 14, in the Baptist Church El Calvario, in Washington D.C., aimed at demanding the lifting of the unjust policy imposed on Cuba for over 55 years.

In his remarks before more than 200 people attending, the Cuban diplomat highlighted Cuba’s commitment with public health as he stressed the blockade’s negative impact on that sector and the existing potentials of collaboration with the United States for the benefit of both countries.

Likewise, he referred to the ongoing work of Cuban professionals alongside members of the University of Illinois in Chicago to help reduce the infant mortality rate in a community of that city, which is an example of what both nations can do in the health sector.

The Cuban diplomat also updated those present on the recovery works taking place on the Island after the passage of Hurricane Irma.

As part of the meeting, a panel session was also held, with the participation of Dr. Jesús de los Santos Reno Céspedes, Chief of Pediatrics in the National Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Havana; Leima Martínez Freire, specialist of the Division for US Affairs of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Margaret Flowers M.D, Co-Director of Popular Resistance, and young US medical doctors who graduated from the Latin American School of Medicine.
