The International Committee of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA IC), through a letter sent to the government of Joe Biden, called for the immediate removal of Cuba from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.
In the letter, the organization reflected on the misleading excuses used at the time by the Donald Trump administration to include Cuba again on the list. The document states that the current government of Colombia demands the removal of Cuba from the spurious list.
In this regard, they called on U.S. President Biden, Secretary Antony Blinken and the U.S. State Department to immediately remove Cuba from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism and begin the process of normalization of relations.
The political group also reiterated its condemnation of the economic sanctions against the Caribbean nation, joining the overwhelming majority of the countries of the world that voted to condemn the blockade during the United Nations General Assembly; as well as urging the members of Congress to eliminate the commercial, financial and travel restrictions that weigh on the island.
The Democratic Socialists of America also expressed their solidarity with the Cuban people and issued a call to action for all members of the Committee to join in the fight against the blockade.
With several decades of existence, the DSA is the largest multi-tendency, democratic-socialist, labor-oriented political organization in the United States.
