Dublin, January 11, 2026. One week after the US military coup against Venezuela, demonstrators expressed their support for the Latin American country and their rejection of the US intervention carried out on January 3.
Representatives of various Irish political parties gathered in front of the US embassy in the Irish capital to reaffirm their support for the Bolivarian process. They also took the opportunity to express their solidarity with Cuba and Palestine.
Yasmary Perdomo, a Cuban resident of Belfast, spoke at the event, pointing out that fascists want us to believe that all Venezuelans are celebrating the aggression against their land, when in reality the situation is very different. She recalled that in 1829, Simón Bolívar, the liberator of Venezuela, wrote in a letter that: “It would seem that the United States of America is destined to plague America with misery in the name of liberty.” She also noted that in 1895, José Martí, the National Hero of Cuba, warned us about the danger that the United States of America posed to our lands and our resources. Yasmary reminded the audience that this country has invaded, financed, and carried out coups d'état, propping up dictators. She further denounced that they are threatening us again today.
