Deputy Minister Alvin Botes condemns Cuba's inclusion on the list of state sponsors of terrorism

Cape Town, 15 July 2024 - South Africa's Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Alvin Botes, condemned the US blockade against Cuba and the island's continued inclusion on the spurius and unilateral list of countries that sponsor terrorism, in an appearance before the country's National Assembly, which was analysing the 2024-2025 budget.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs briefly mentioned some of the country's main foreign policy lines and said about Cuba: "South Africa shares a special bond with Cuba as our strategic, historical and development partner in the Caribbean region, centred on shared values of freedom, solidarity, and progressive internationalism. South Africa unequivocally opposes the continuation of the USA economic blockade against Cuba and will continue to support the annual resolutions in the UN General Assembly on the “Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade against Cuba” and the removal of Cuba from the US State Department list of States sponsoring Terrorism.".

The statement was published on the official pages of the Parliament and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation.
