Pretoria, July 31st, 2019.- We share a newspaper article by Alvin Botes, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Africa, published in various of the South African media, including the newspaper "The Star", on the occasion of commemorating the 66th anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks in Cuba, on July 26, 1953.
These armed actions, carried out by a group of young people led by Fidel Castro, began the last stage of the Cuban people struggles for their definitive liberation and independence. That is why July 26 has been declared as the Day of the National Rebelliousness by the Cuban government.
The article by the high diplomat of the South African government highlights the important achievements of the Cuban Revolution in its internal and international policy, with a special mention to Cuba's assistance to the national liberation movements in Africa since 1963.
In a fragment of the article, he expressed:
“History did absolve Fidel Castro and continues to absolve him. The evidence indicates that the Cuban revolution created a better life for all its citizens, which included wiping out illiteracy; free, quality education from early childhood development to tertiary level; returning the land and houses to the people; and free health care and social services, which increased the quality of life and life expectancy, thus giving back dignity to the ordinary people of Cuba.”
The Deputy Minister reaffirms in his article the support of South Africa to Cuba, and to other countries that suffer from the application of unilateral economic blockades, violations of International Law and its territorial sovereignty.
