Pretoria, April 15, 2019.- The President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel, stated in his Twitter account that "Cuba is tirelessly working for the safe return of Assel (Herrera) and Landy (Rodríguez), our doctors kidnapped in Kenya . With them and their loved ones we share the certainty that their humanitarian mission will be respected and recognized. We believe in the power of solidarity ».
Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla tweeted: "I had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, Monica Juma. We exchanged about the kidnapping of the two Cuban doctors and the actions carried out by the Government of their country in the face of the unfortunate incident. "
In both Twitter accounts, it transpired that the rest of the Cuban doctors in Kenya are safe and informed of each of the steps taken in order to rescue the two kidnapped companions.
Assel Herrera Correa is a specialist in Integral General Medicine of the province of Las Tunas, and Landy Rodríguez Hernández, of Villa Clara, exercises surgery.
In an information note, published on April 12, the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba reported that all channels were established with the Kenyan authorities, to reach a solution regarding the kidnapping of both internationalist doctors in the exercise of their profession in that country.
