Roseau, July 10, 2022. A group of activities condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the US government against the people of Cuba and in support of the Cuban Revolution, took place yesterday afternoon, July 9, 2022. The activities were organized by the "Dominica - Cuba Friendship Association".
The day of solidarity with Cuba began at 4:00 in the afternoon with a Caravan of 21 vehicles that was touring the streets of the country's capital for 45 minutes. During the journey, the caravanists honked the horn of their vehicle shouting ¨down the blockade¨, to which several of the passers-by responded with ¡Viva Cuba! After the Caravan concluded, a political act was held in which 8 speakers spoke, representing Dominicans and Cubans, led by Dr. Damien Dublin, President of the "Dominica-Cuba Friendship Association". They all condemned the blockade, the aggressions against the people of Cuba and highlighted the ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between both peoples.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations, Honourable Dr. Kenneth Darroux, was one of the speakers representing Dominicans who have graduated at university in Cuba. He had words of praise and admiration for Cuba, whom he considers his second nation. To condemn the blockade, he narrated his personal experience regarding the limitations and needs that he lived joint the people of Cuba when he studied in Santi Spiritus, as a consequence of that blockade. He expressed his support for the Cuban Revolution and condemned attempts from abroad to try to destabilize it.
At the conclusion of the political event, the Cuban Ambassador provided information on the effects of the blockade and how this is the main obstacle to advancing the prosperity and well-being of the Cuban people. He wondered how much the Cuban people could not have done with the 147 thousand 853.3 million dollars that the blockade has cost the people of Cuba. He also referred to how the people of Cuba overcome obstacles imposed by the blockade, as in the case of the battle against COVID-19, in which, thanks to Cuban scientists, the pandemic had been controlled, having 90% of the Cuban population with the complete vaccination schedule with Cuban vaccines, and the first place in the world in population vaccinated with the buster. Recounting how the blockade had not prevented Cuba from showing solidarity with Dominica, he reaffirmed the commitment to continue cooperating with this sister nation for as long as necessary. He finally thanked the "Dominican-Cuban Friendship Association", the people of Dominica and their government, for supporting the people of Cuba in the battle to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the US government.
The day concluded with a festive activity commemorating the first anniversary of the victory of the Cuban people over the failed attempt from abroad to destabilize the Cuban Revolution on July 11, 2021.
