Helsinki, May 29, 2018. During her visit to Finland, Cuban deputy Mariela Castro Espín held a meeting on May 28 with H.E Mr. Jukka Pietikäinen, Finnish Ambassador to Cuba, resident in Helsinki, who was accompanied by Ms. Anu Korppi, deputy director of the Unit for Latin America and Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreigns Affairs of Finland; Mrs. Janina Hasenson, deputy director of the Unit in charge of the Human Rights Policy and H.E Mrs. Anne Meskanen, Ambassador for Equality Affairs at the Ministry.
During the meeting, the Director of the National Center for Sexual Education (CENESEX), explained the tasks carried out by the institution she leads and offered an overview of the outstanding results obtained by Cuba in terms of gender equality. She explained also the Cuban achievements and goals in the field of sexual rights. Both parties exchanged points of views on the situation of these issues around the world and highlighted the importance of the exchange of experiences at international level. Other current topics were also discussed about Cuba, Finland, and the relations between Cuba and the European Union.
The Ambassador of Cuba to Finland, Eduardo Lazo Pérez, present at the meeting, highlighted the good state of the bilateral ties and the existing potential to further develop those relations. At the same time, thanked the position of Finland rejecting the US blockade against Cuba. Ambassador Pietikäinen congratulated the Director of CENESEX for the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in Psychology conferred to her by the Åbo Akademi University, on May 25.
On Monday morning, Dr. Mariela Castro Espín visited Kulosaari High School, in this capital, where she met the Principal, teachers and students and received information about the educational system in Finland. She also had the opportunity to explain the work of CENESEX and offered information about the educational system in Cuba (Report: Embassy of Cuba to Finland).
