Helsinki, May 26th.- H.E. Ms. Piritta Asunmaa, Director General for America and Asia of the Finnish Foreign Ministry held a fruitful exchange, at the renovated headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the Charge D'Affaires a.i of Cuba in this capital, Víctor Manuel Rodríguez Etcheverry.
During the meeting, both diplomats reviewed the current state of bilateral ties and their development prospects.
Asunmaa, highlighted the positive progress of the political dialogue achieved between Cuba and the EU and, in particular, highlighted the development of the exchange between the Greater Antilles and Finland in the framework of inter-foreign political consultations, a fundamental basis for mutual political understanding between both governments. Likewise, she took the opportunity to thank the Cuban support received for Finland's candidacies in different United Nations bodies, such as the Human Rights Council.
For his part, the acting head of mission delivered a copy of Cuba's report on UNGA resolution 74/7 entitled: "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba", underlining that Blockade constitutes the main obstacle to the development of the Caribbean Island, being strongly condemned, year after year, by the majority of the international community in the United Nations General Assembly.
Rodríguez Etcheverry took the opportunity to update his counterpart on the human and material damage caused by the more than 240 measures of recruitment of the Blockade, during the last Republican administration. The Cuban official emphasized the last 50, which Washington made coincide with the global Sars CoV2 pandemic, preventing the entry of mechanical lung ventilators, masks, diagnostic kits, protective glasses, suits, gloves, reagents, among other necessary implements for the management of this disease, exacerbating the cruelty of this hostile and archaic U.S policy.
On June 23rd, the world will witness once again the presentation of the Cuban draft resolution against this scourge at the UN, which is expected to once again have the traditional support of the overwhelming majority of the member states of the International Community.
On the Finnish side, was also present at the meeting, Counselor Ms. Katja Karppinen-Njock, Deputy Director for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean of the aforementioned Ministry.
