Director of the President's diplomatic office receives Cuban ambassador

Nicosia, April 20, 20223 - The Director of the President's Diplomatic Office & EU Sherpa, Ms Marilena Raouna, received Cuban Ambassador Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero on the morning of 19 April 2023 for a courtesy visit at the Diplomatic Office Building of the Presidential Palace.

The Ambassador congratulated Ms Raouna on her appointment as Director of the President's Diplomatic Office & EU Sherpa. The Cuban diplomat described the history of the close bilateral relations between the two islands through the main events that have marked the bonds of mutual support and solidarity. He also expressed his willingness to strengthen relations between the two countries by extending work to all possible areas. He also thanked Cyprus for the unwavering support it has always shown against the unjust, genocidal and unilateral blockade that the US has imposed on its country for more than 60 years.

For her part, Ms Raouna reiterated that the relations between Cyprus and Cuba are based on solid foundations and are therefore permanent and that the support for the fundamental principles is reciprocal. She also thanked Cuba for its support on the Cyprus issue.

Both agreed that both countries have much to contribute in bilateral relations and can promote cooperation in various fields such as energy, education, trade and health.
