Cape Town, 21 May 2026. — The Cuban Ambassador, Fakri Rodríguez, attended the premier of the documentary "Cuba after Castro" in South Africa. The event was organized by our friends at FOCUS Western Cape. The event was well attended by a large audience interested in the reality of life in Cuba.
Following the screening, the documentary’s filmmakers, Abby Martin and Matthew Belen, together with the Cuban Ambassador, took part in an online discussion addressing various aspects of the current situation in Cuba, its historical development and the future prospects for the Cuban people. The dialogue provided an opportunity to compare perspectives, share first-hand information and foster a discussion based on facts and respect for Cuba’s sovereignty.
We thank FOCUS Western Cape for the invitation and highlight the importance of such cultural and academic gatherings in strengthening the bonds of friendship and understanding between Cuba and South African society. Activities such as this help to break down stereotypes, broaden knowledge of the reality in Cuba and promote informed dialogue on the policies and challenges facing the island.
