FINAL DECLARATION VI AFRICAN CONTINENTAL MEETING OF SOLIDARITY WITH CUBA

Inspired by the common values of independence, sovereignty, humanism and social justice 300 delegates, representatives of 26 countries met at the Shehu Yard´Adua International Conference Center in Abuja, Nigeria, to participate in the VI African Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba in September 23-25, 2019.

This important event organized by the Solidarity Movement with Cuba in Nigeria and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples (ICAP), under Fidel's precept that “nothing is more precious than solidarity between human communities”, contributed to strengthen the brotherhood between Cuba and Africa. This was another space to pay tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution and to the illustrious sons and daughters of Cuba, men and women of our time who bequeathed to us, that with the defense of our rights and just causes that a better world we all need, can be reached.

60 years after the triumph of Revolution, Cuba remains a reference for all the peoples of the World. Despite the hostile policy posturing of the United States Government, Cuba continues to make progress in the areas of health, education, science, sports and culture.

Even in the most difficult moments, Cuba remains a shining example of support and solidarity as it has not forgotten his African Brothers and Sisters. This is proven by the more than four thousand four hundred Cuban collaborators working in 28 nations of Sub-Saharan Africa and the more than eight thousand two hundred young people studying in Cuban educational centers.

As Fidel said, Cuba in its own right, has written its name in gold in the annals of the history of freedom and solidarity.

Therefore, the participants at this Conference, representing the friendship organizations, friends committed to the Island including Academics, Professionals, Artisans and Students reaffirm our commitment to continue developing and strengthening the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba incorporating young people from different sectors in each of our countries, fighting for unity and sovereignty.

We note that contemporary imperialism is symptomatic of the history of its existence. Extraterritorial intervention is the very logic of its survival. Today there is no aspect of human life and nature that is not affected by its effort to establish hegemony. Cuba is the center of its attack, since the Cuban people remains at the forefront of the struggle in their opposition.

Solidarity with Cuba is, therefore, part of our own struggle against imperialism.

WE DECLARE THAT

- The relations between our Countries are part of our history rooted in deep cultural and historical roots. Sealed by the blood spilled by the more than 2000 Cuban fighters who lost their lives in the struggle for the sovereignty of our Nations, men and women who were descendants of the slaves who arrived in Cuba from this continent and who played a fundamental role in the struggle for the independence of Cuba.

- We are aware that the movement of solidarity with Cuba is an integral part of the struggle of the peoples against US imperialism and its allies that threaten peace and stability in the world.

- Our firm commitment to defend the independence, sovereignty and right to self-determination of the Cuban people and consolidate actions for the “Hands off Cuba” Campaign.

- We condemn the unfair economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the governments of the United States on Cuba for almost 60 years, ignoring the claim of the international community that for 27 years has demanded, in the General Assembly of the United Nations, the end of this policy, whose sole objective is to overthrow the Cuban Revolution.

- We denounce the US government for the illegal application of the Helms Burton Act and the activation of its title III in its attempt to perpetuate and internationalize the economic, commercial and financial blockade, as well as to threaten Businesses from developing Countries that legitimately invest or maintain business on the Island.

- We affirm that Cuba is not a threat to the national security of the United States or any other nation. The aggressive escalation against Cuba has as a backdrop the campaign for the re-election of President Trump, encouraged by the Cuban-American mafia of Miami and is justified by the alleged sonic attacks against US diplomats accredited in Havana as well as the attempt to discredit the Cuban collaboration

- We demand the return of the territory illegally occupied by the Naval Base of the United States Government in Guantanamo and we condemn the constant violations of human rights that are committed there.

- We condemn the media campaigns that manipulate information about Cuba and misrepresent the Cuban reality through the media

- We recognize the Cuban people for their selfless solidarity with many peoples of our region and their continued assistance in education, health and sports; especially for the support offered in 2014, with the dispatch of more than 200 doctors to face the Ebola epidemic, which hit West African Countries.

- We reject the hostile, interventionist regime change agenda of the United States Government as it applies to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. We strongly reject the unlawful unilateral coercive measures applied by the Donald Trump administration against the people of Venezuela which openly violate human rights, international law and the principles of sovereignty and non-interference.

- We express our solidarity with the Brazilian ex-president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva deprived of liberty for being a threat to the imperialist interests of the United States.

- We reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with the cause of the Brothers and Sisters of the Western Sahara and demand that the resolutions adopted in the General Assembly of the United Nations be fulfilled as a definitive solution to the question of Western Sahara, which will allow the exercise of the right to self-determination and to live in peace in its territory.

- We demand the immediate cessation of murders, massacres, violations of the human rights against the Palestinian people by the Israeli Government, the end of its expansionist and colonizing policies as well as the solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

- We call on the conscience of all people of good will to defend peace, to dialogue, to fight for a better world with social justice and equality, to repudiate interference in the internal affairs of nations and to respect the sovereignty and independence of the Nations.

- We congratulate Cuba and Nigeria on the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and encourage them to continue the good level of relations and deepen economic ties.

- We recognize the work of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples almost 60 years after its creation, as an institution that brings together actions worldwide, based on the principle of solidarity and friendship, while also endorsing and providing support to all just causes in any part of the World.

- We congratulate the Cuban people on the 60th Anniversary of their Revolution, an example of dignity and resistance, certain  that they will be able to defend, at the price of any sacrifice, the conquests achieved during these years.

- We express our satisfaction that Mozambique will host the VII African Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba to be held in 2021.

  • We commit to ensuring that Africa Nations embrace the lessons of dignity, self -reliance, solidarity, determination and resilience to run African Nations in the interest of African Peoples just as Cuba has done over the years.

- We express our sincere gratitude to the Nigerian movement of solidarity with Cuba, to the Organizing Committee and to the Cuban Embassy for the excellent organization, hospitality and effort that made possible the successful realization of this important event of solidarity and friendship between Africa and Cuba.
