Pretoria, 3 September 2026 — The “Cuba Solidarity Now” initiative delivered 20 tons of food directly to three hospitals in Havana, in an act of solidarity that reaffirms the bonds of friendship between the peoples of South Africa and Cuba.
The delivery was made in person by Professor Brian Williams, representative of “Cuba Solidarity Now”, during a ceremony attended by the director of the Cuban hospitals, officials from Cuba’s Institute of Friendship with the Peoples and by the South African Embassy in Havana.
The solidarity visit also included a meeting with the staff and residents of a old age nursing home in Santa Clara, which was benefited from “Cuba Solidarity Now” with the installation of a photovoltaic system that provided the facility with energy independence.
During his visit to Cuba, Professor Brian Williams also held meetings with various institutional representatives, which will enable new practical solidarity initiatives to be put in place in the near future.
