Canberra, December 7 - The 60th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, as well as the three decades of diplomatic relations with Australia, were celebrated whithin an event organized at the Embassy of Cuba in Canberra this week.
The Cuban Ambassador, José Manuel Galego Montano, briefed during his remarks to the attendees on important issues of the political, economic and social background of Cuba, highlighting also the most important advances achieved in recent years in the field of bilateral relations, such as the visit to Cuba paid by the former Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop in 2017, the projects on oil prospecting and extraction with the Australian company Melbana as well as the signing of the first agreement on biotechnology, wich was reached last May in Melbourne.
In the framework of the activity was lauched the documentary "Buscando a Sanguily", that reveals unknown aspects on William Sanguily, who is believed to be the first Cuban arriving into Australian soil, in 1866.
Between those who assisted were the Chief of Protocol, Lyndall Sachs, the President of the Australia-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group, Warren Entsch, the federal deputies Steve Georganas and Justine Elliot, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corp, members of the solidarity movement and friends of Cuba.
