Canberra, August 9, 2026. The Embassy of Cuba in Australia joined members of the Australia-Cuba Friendship Society (ACFS), Canberra Branch, on a solidarity tour in the city of Cooma, as part of the final day of the national campaign “From Australia to Cuba with Love 2026.” The event brought together friends of Cuba in an atmosphere of commitment and fraternity, reaffirming the bonds of friendship that unite both peoples.
The tour included several iconic sites in Cooma, including Centennial Park, the Avenue of Flags, the Mosaic Walk, the Banjo Paterson Tribute Statue, and Nijong Ninja Park, before concluding at the Corrective Services NSW Museum, a space steeped in local history. Thanks to the dedication of the participants and the efforts of the organizers, the group contributed an additional 60 kilometers to the campaign's national total.
This year, the event held special significance as it was dedicated to the centenary of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, whose legacy of solidarity, resistance, and humanism continues to inspire social movements and organizations worldwide. The Embassy emphasized that Fidel's spirit, centered on unity, social justice, and cooperation among peoples, is fully reflected in the commitment shown by the Australian friends who participate in this initiative each year.
The From Australia to Cuba with Love campaign has established itself as one of the most important expressions of solidarity with Cuba on the Australian continent. In its 2026 edition, it achieved an impressive total of 17,367 kilometers traveled and raised funds that will be used to install a solar energy system at a children's community home in Guantánamo. This contribution will have a direct impact on the lives of Cuban children, demonstrating how international solidarity can transform concrete realities.
