On April 27, 2026, the Embassy of Cuba in the United States participated in the textile design gala “Fashioning Power, Fashioning Peace,” held at the Woodrow Wilson House. The event brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, designers, and cultural figures in a setting dedicated to highlighting the role of fashion as a vehicle for dialogue between nations. In this context, emphasis was placed on how costume design transcends mere aesthetics to become a tool for cultural expression—a bridge that fosters mutual understanding and peacebuilding among peoples.
The Cuban participation stood out through the presentation of an authentic guayabera, crafted from linen by renowned Cuban designer Hilda Rosa. This emblematic piece reflected the richness of the island’s textile traditions, as well as the capacity of Cuban design to engage in dialogue with the world while remaining true to its own identity. The presentation reaffirmed the value of culture as a fundamental pillar in building bridges between societies, underscoring Cuba’s contribution to international cultural exchange through its heritage and creativity.
