Washington, D.C.— The staff of the Embassy of Cuba in the United States marked, in a simple ceremony, the 65th anniversary of the victory at Playa Girón and the proclamation of the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution.
During the event, official Gabriela Reyes highlighted the historical significance of this event for the Caribbean nation. “Girón was more than a victory: it was a lesson for the world. It demonstrated that there is no force capable of defeating a people conscious of their destiny,” she stated. She also underscored Cuba’s determination to face current challenges with the same spirit of resistance.
As part of the commemoration, an audiovisual presentation was screened, emphasizing the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro in the face of that imperialist threat, as well as his legacy of firmness and commitment.
The activity also included a new edition of the tour of sites visited by Fidel during his historic trip to Washington, D.C. in 1959, as part of the activities organized by the diplomatic mission in the context of the centennial of his birth.
