Embassy of Cuba in the US remembers Fidel on the anniversary of his birth

On a day like today, 96 years ago, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, was born in Birán, Oriente. Two decades later, Fidel broke into the political life of Cuba and from that moment on, his ideas, convictions and actions marked his revolutionary actions. In the same way, the history of Cuba would begin to be written under the influence of his name and his constant battle to liberate Cuba from neo-colonialism and the domination of the United States. Fidel's qualities as a human being and his gifts as a natural leader made him a central figure in the struggles to see the country free of corrupt governments.

From the student struggles to the preparation of the assault on the Moncada Barracks, from his exile in Mexico to the landing of the Granma and then the guerrilla struggle in the Sierra Maestra, Fidel showed his innate ability to face obstacles, assess risks and anticipate more complex situations. At the same time, with the Moncada Program as a guide, and the majority support of the Cuban people, together with the historic generation, he conceived a Cuba of social justice, real political participation and defense of national sovereignty.

For the present and future generations of Cubans, the legacy of Fidel Castro must be a guide for our daily actions. In the current circumstances of our country, with extremely complex realities in economic and social matters, we are left to assume as our own his ability to fight, his optimism and his unwavering faith in victory. 96 years after his birth, Fidel is still among us. He accompanies us, guides us and also inspires us with confidence in victory.

Long live Fidel
