Kingston, Jamaica, 27 July 2021. The collective of the Cuban Embassy in Jamaica celebrated the National Rebellion Day on July 26 at noon. In a brief but very emotional event held at the headquarters of the Diplomatic mission, staff members reaffirmed their commitment to the homeland and to the defence of the conquests of the Revolution, and expressed their solidarity with the Cuban people's struggle against the Covid-19 pandemic. They also condemned the US blockade and the aggressions promoted from abroad to subvert constitutional order in the island.
Late in the afternoon, the Jamaica’s Solidarity Movement with Cuba held a virtual event. Organized by the Left Alliance for National Democracy and Socialism (LANDS), the meeting was attended by more than 30 people, including members of LANDS, the Jamaica Cuba Friendship Association, the Jamaica Peace Council, the Friends of Cuba group, the Jamaica’s Association of Graduates from Cuban Colleges, the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica, the Cuban Medical Brigade, and other Caribbean friends from different corners of the continent. Leaders and representatives of all participating organizations expressed their support for Cuba amidst the difficult situation faced by the country and the world, and recognized the importance of unity between progressive and popular forces to confront the political/media offensive led by the Imperialism.
Addressing participants, Ulises Calvo, the Cuban Charge d' Affaires in Jamaica, stated: "We revolutionaries are moved by love. The Revolution is a work of love. If our enemies can cry out their slogans of hatred; we revolutionaries must show that Cuba is not alone in this struggle. Our struggle is the struggle of the oppressed of the world, of the exploited; it is the struggle to be masters of our own destinies, without having the 'rich neighbour' from the other side of the street - or the sea - telling us what to do."
