Helsinki, June 21st. - This morning, the administration of the Finnish city of Vaasa, in the Ostrobothnia region, received a working visit from the acting head of mission of Cuba, Víctor M. Rodríguez Etcheverry.
The working day included presentations by businessmen from various Finnish companies such as Woima or Wärtsilä of energy production, from renewable sources, a topic of strategic interest for Cuba, contained in the National Plan for Economic and Social Development of the country until 2030 and, where Finnish companies are world leaders.
Susanna Slotte-Kock, Director of International Relations of the City Administration began the visit with a general presentation on the opportunities and potential of business in the western city of the Nordic country, of just over 100,000 inhabitants.
The CEO of the Finnish company Woima, Henri Kinnunen, illustrated to those present about the novel techniques of energy production from waste and biomass, which he considers as the energy of the future, since it contributes to sustainable development by protecting the environment and ensuring more favorable long-term costs than traditional production schemes.
During the meeting, the Cuban diplomat took the opportunity to condemn once again the inhuman and unjust policy of Blocking the United States against Cuba, which has been in existence for almost six decades and will be rejected on June 23rd in the UN by the international community for 29th time in a row. "The Blockade is the main impediment to access high-tech´s in this particular sphere and, at the same time, constitutes the greatest obstacle to the development of our country," said Rodríguez Etcheverry.
The city of Vaasa is known as the Energy Capital of the Nordics, since it exports more than 80% of its local production abroad, generating jobs for more than 12 thousand inhabitants and creating a culture of saving and environmental protection in the new generations of Finns, who engage universities, companies and the community within the modern concept of circular economy.
