Esteban Lazo received the General Secretary of the South African Communist Party

Havana, 7 July 2025.- The historic relations between Cuba and South Africa were highlighted on Monday during the meeting between Esteban Lazo Hernández, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party, President of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Council of State, and Solly Mapaila, General Secretary of the South African Communist Party.

During the cordial exchange at the National Capitol, both parties agreed on their willingness to continue strengthening the ties of friendship and solidarity between the two countries and praised the significance of the victory over apartheid, not only for South Africa, but for the entire world. They emphasised that the legacy of deep friendship between Fidel Castro and Nelson Mandela constitutes the best historical reference point for advancing the strengthening of cooperation in areas of common interest for the benefit of our peoples, especially between both parties and parliaments.

Esteban Lazo thanked the African nation for its firm condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba and for the re-inclusion of our country on the spurious list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism.

For his part, Solly Mapaila highlighted the significance of his visit to Cuba, just hours after the conclusion of the 10th Plenary Session of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, where the 9th Congress of the organisation was convened for 2026, the year in which we will commemorate the centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. The distinguished visitor and his delegation, accompanied by Esteban Lazo, toured the historic halls of the National Capitol.
