City of Tshwane, 19 December 2024 - Today, the Cuban Embassy in South Africa participated in a farewell ceremony for young people from Gauteng Province who will soon travel to Cuba to begin their medical studies at different Cuban universities.
The Chargé d' Affaires a.i. of the Cuban diplomatic mission, Bryan Betancourt Brito, shared some emotional words with the students, assuring them that the journey they were about to embark on would be difficult, but full of happy moments and learning. "You will return to South Africa not only having studied the difficult but beautiful profession of medicine, but you will return feeling Cuban, having mastered as well one of the most difficult languages, Spanish, and more than Spanish, Cuban," the diplomat stated. The embassy was also represented by the economic counsellor Yulian M Reyes Caballero.
On the South African side, the Deputy Director-General of the Provincial Department of Health, Ms Basani Baloyi, and other officials from the department attended.
