Dublin, June 21, 2018. Led by Deputy Thomas Pringle and with the presence of several of its members, the Irish Parliamentary Committee of Friendship with Cuba welcomed the Deputy to the National Assembly of Popular Power, Fernando Gonzalez Llort, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, who is currently visiting Ireland for work.
Fernando recalled and thanked the dozens of Irish senators and deputies who signed a document years ago that supported the cause of the release of the Cuban Five Patriots who served unfair and prolonged imprisonment in American prisons, as well as other actions undertaken to secure their release. It was also evident the gratitude for the support to end the economic blockade that for almost six decades the government of the United States has sustained against the Cuban people.
Gonzalez LLort, referring to his Irish colleagues about the tasks undertaken by the Cuban Parliament related to the process of updating our economic model and the reform of the Constitution, also reported on the recent creation of a new parliamentary group of friendship with Europe, which henceforth he should encourage a fluid parliamentary exchange, in line with our wishes to grow bilateral cooperation relations with Ireland and other European nations, in all possible areas.
The Cuban Ambassador to Ireland, Hugo Rene Ramos Milanes, accompanied comrade Fernando during the meeting.
