Havana, Aug 4 (Prensa Latina) The leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, remains one of the most influential and debated global figures of the 20th and 21st centuries due to his legacy in politics, education, culture, and humanism.
Beyond his role as Cuban head of State, Fidel Castro was a strategic thinker, a revolutionary educator, and a symbol of global resistance who, approaching his 100th birthday (1926-2026), continues to set the course for Cuba and resound in social movements in Latin America and the world.
Since the first days of the revolutionary triumph on the Caribbean island in January 1959, he championed education as a tool for social transformation. Thus, the 1961 Literacy Campaign was one of his greatest achievements, driving thousands of young people to teach reading and writing in even in far back places of the country.
In the political sphere, the Cuban statesman was the leader of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), which was founded in 1965 as a continuation of the revolutionary organizations that preceded it. His method of selecting exemplary militants, based on behavior, commitment, and ethics, showed his vision of a party deeply linked to the people.
Internationally, Fidel Castro left a profound mark on the history of Latin America and the world. He was a symbol of anti-imperialist resistance and a promoter of international solidarity.
As Army General Raul Castro said in 2016: “That is our undefeated Fidel, who calls us with his example and demonstrated that ‘Yes, we could, yes, we can, and yes, we will!'”
His thought continues to lmght up the path of those who fight for human dignity, the sovereignty of peoples, and social justice.
