Fidel in Freedom Park

Pretoria, December 8, 2025.- This morning, officials and workers from the Cuban diplomatic mission in South Africa witnessed a crucial moment in history: the inauguration of the Gallery of Leaders in Freedom Park, which pays tribute to South African leaders, leaders from Africa and around the world who left their indelible mark on human history.

Among those leaders, the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, stands out as one of the most prominent figures of the 20th century, a leader of the people who always fought for the independence and sovereignty of the oppressed, a leader who dreamed of a better world and showed us that it was possible to achieve it.

The event was presided over by South Africa's Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Gayton Mckenzie, who recognized the contribution of each of the leaders honored in the struggles for the liberation of South Africa and the African continent in general.

Commander Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, Che, is also one of the international leaders recognized in this gallery for his undisputable contribution to the national liberation movements of Africa and his enduring example, which still influences the lives of millions of people.
