Helsinki, January 21st.- Charge d'Affaires a.i in Finland, Mr. Víctor Manuel Rodríguez Etcheverry, held a cordial virtual meeting with the CEO of the company "Solar Waters Solutions Oy", Mr. Antti Pohiola.
During the meeting, the Finnish businessman conveyed the vision of his company settled in the city of Espoo, with several years of experience in the desalination of groundwater, based on solar energy. In small island states, this problem is permanent. In nowadays world, with Climate Change, more and more frequent penetrations of the sea pollute underground drinking water sources by mixing with seawater. The high-tech company recovers 95% of the contaminated water, which represents a very high level of efficiency compared to the competition, which generally achieves between 60-65%. The purification plants have a yield of 20,000 m3 of water per day, with a mobile and temporary infrastructure that does not require the installation of pipes or large engineering assemblies.
The Cuban diplomat, for his part, updated his counterpart on the importance for Cuba of replacing the energy matrix from oil and gas to clean energy, as part of the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030. Cuba is a tropical island with a strong incidence of atmospheric phenomena that generate penetrations of the sea, which contaminate the underground freshwater deposits. The power generation potentialities to feed this technology are unlimited, since the country has intense sun throughout the year. The technology offered by Solar Water Solutions meets the requirement of purifying contaminated water, while not working with hydrocarbons, constituting an example of contribution to the circular economy.
Both parties agreed to continue the dialogue, as well as to organize, when the epidemiological situation allows it, a visit by the representatives of the Embassy to the facilities of the Finnish company, which will undoubtedly contribute to the growing dynamics of economic-commercial ties between Finland and Cuba.
