Helsinki, February 11th.- This morning, a fruitful virtual exchange took place between the Deputy Director of the Department for General Global Affairs and the United Nations of the Finnish Chancellery, Päivi Karhio-Szilvay and the Charge d'Affaires a.i from Cuba in Helsinki, Víctor Manuel Rodríguez Etcheverry.
During the entertaining meeting, Karhio-Szilvay reiterated the traditional Finnish possition condemning the US Blockade against Cuba and highlighted the spirit of cooperation existing in the multilateral sphere between both countries, expressed through mutual support of candidacies for different United Nations organizations .
For his part, the Cuban diplomat thanked his counterpart for the traditional support received on this issue of the highest priority for the Island. He also promised to send a printed version of the latest "Report by Cuba on resolution 74/7 of the UNGA". which covers the period April 2019-March 2020, where the effects were marked by a serious setback in bilateral relations with the United States, under the last Trump Administration.
Both parties agreed on the need to continue deepening the multilateral political dialogue, which directly contributes to the strengthening of the already positive existing bilateral ties.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Director of the Department of Latin America and the Caribbean and Head of the Group for attention to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, Katja Karppinen-Njock.
