Helsinki, August 16, 2023.- The Finnish friendship movement reiterated here its solidarity and support in the face of the intensification of the economic war by the United States that Cuba is facing today, support for which its ambassador Beatriz Parra thanked. Likewise, the solidarity group headed by Tarja Halonen before being president of the country from 2000 to 2012 assured that they will continue to demand the end of the blockade on the island and that Washington remove it from the spurious list of countries sponsoring terrorism that causes so much damage to the people. Cuban.

The head of mission held a meeting with representatives of the Finland-Cuba Friendship Association in which they paid tribute to the historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro on the 97th anniversary of his birth and the 60th anniversary of the foundation of that solidarity organization.

“Since the first years of the revolution, the accompaniment of the Finnish people was always felt. The stories, the photos, the memories, the memories of many of those present today in this commemoration and of others who could not be there, are moving, but in the same way they keep a little piece of Cuba in their hearts,” recalled the diplomat.

Sixty years later, other stories continue to show the friendship between the two peoples, such as that of the brigade that travels regularly to the eastern province of Las Tunas where it works voluntarily at the Children's Hospital and donates medical supplies, highlighted Parra, who is also a concurrent ambassador to three other Baltic States, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

She thanked the constant denunciation of the Finnish friends against the "cruel and suffocating blockade that impedes the development of Cuba", and urged them to add their signatures to the campaign "1 million signatures to remove Cuba from the unfair list of sponsoring states of the terrorism".
