First Cuban Vice President pays tribute to Cuban internationalist heroes and holds meeting with Cuban cooperators in South Africa

Pretoria, 23 May 2019.- The first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, comrade Salvador Valdés Mesa, visited on Thursday afternoon, May 23, the emblematic Freedom Park, a museum in the city of Pretoria, where he paid homage to the Cuban internationalist fighters that offered their lives during the struggles for the liberation of Africa and the overthrow of Apartheid.

The Cuban leader laid a wreath before the colossal wall in which are recorded the names of 2 289 Cuban fighters killed in African lands, as well as the name of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, who by decision of the South African authorities, was added to the list in 2017.

Subsequently, the Cuban vice-president held a fruitful exchange with a representation of Cuban cooperators in South Africa, belonging to the sectors of health, education, construction and defense.

Cuban Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez and the coordinators of each of the Cuban cooperation brigades, presented an update of the work carried out and their perspectives.

For his part, the First Cuban Vice President made a broad dissertation on the main tasks and priorities of work on the Island, as well as the challenges associated with the current regional and international context.

Also participated in the meeting the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ana Teresita González Fraga; Brigadier General Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez; other members of the Cuban delegation that visits South Africa and the workers of the Cuban Embassy in South Africa.
