LITHUANIA, May 20th, 2019 – The First Deputy Foreign Minister of Cuba, Marcelino Medina González, and the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Neris Germanas, chaired this Monday in the afternoon the first official talks between the foreign ministries of their nations, in the context of the Cuban diplomat's working visit to this nation.
During this meeting that was held in a cordial environment, both parties highlighted the positive bilateral links that Cuba and Lithuania have maintained since they established diplomatic relations, and their development on the basis of mutual respect. Furthermore, they expressed their willingness to work together on the strengthening of bilateral dialogue, and acknowledged that both nations share common ground on various issues of the international agenda.
The Cuban diplomat also acknowledged Lithuania's support to the resolution demanding an end to the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba. This meeting also offered a good opportunity to underline the positive development of Cuba-EU relations during the first year of implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement and the level of political dialogue that has been achieved.
The visit to Lithuania of the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Cuba is the first visit of a Cuban vice-minister of foreign affairs to this country and is an indication of the reciprocal interest of both nations in strengthening their bilateral links. (Cubaminrex)
