Pretoria, 24 May 2019.- The first Vice President of Cuba Salvador Mesa participated in an event of solidarity with Cuba organized by the government organizations alliance in South Africa, which are the African National Congress, the South Africa Communist Party and the Congress of South African Trade Unions; as well as by the Friends of Cuba Society of South Africa.
The emotional meeting was attended by the Vice President of Venezuela Aristóbulo Isturiz and more than one hundred South African participants; as well as the rest of the official delegation of Cuba that visits South Africa and the Ambassador of Cuba Rodolfo Benítez Verson.
There were numerous interventions condemning the blockade and the growing policy of hostility by the United States against Cuba. The participants also expressed towards Cuba for their contribution in the struggles against Apartheid and the cooperation that South Africa and Cuba maintain in various social and economic sectors.
The Cuban Vice President made a broad presentation on current Cuban issues and the regional and international situation. He thanked South Africa for its firm position of support to Cuba in the fight against the blockade and reiterated Cuba's willingness to maintain and expand ties of cooperation with the sister nation of South Africa.
