Canberra, 30th of November 2017. Dr. Manuel Raíces, finishing a working visit to Australia by invitation of the government, was received this morning at the headquarters of the Australian Foreign Ministry by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Julie Bishop.
In a cordial and relaxed atmosphere, Dr. Raíces, specialist from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) and awarded with the Prize of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba, summarized the results of his visit, during which he participated in scientific conferences and expert meetings on the control of diseases such as diabetes, skin cancer - of high incidence in Australia - as well as on the application of Cuban biotechnology in the prevention of bovine diseases. The Minister stated that the possible cooperation projects identified during the visit will be followed up, considering that the progress made by Cuba in the sector could benefit thousands of Australian citizens.
During his stay in Canberra, Dr. Raíces gave a conference lecture at the Cuban Embassy, during which he paid tribute, along with the Cuban officials of the diplomatic mission, to the architect of Cuban biotechnology, our eternal Commander Fidel Castro Ruz.
