Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said today on his Twitter account that the Caribbean nation favors exchanges with the United States in all spheres and expressed the wish that the procedures for this can be carried out here.
The foreign minister expressed the hope that "Cuban artists, academics and athletes will be allowed to obtain visas in Havana to attend events" in U.S. territory.
Since last January, the U.S. Embassy in Havana began to process all categories of immigrant visas, however, it currently only offers limited services for emergency non-immigrant visas, which makes it difficult to process the rest of the travel categories.
Cultural, academic and sports exchanges have been traditional between the two countries and have flourished since the reestablishment of diplomatic relations.
The closure of practically all services in the U.S. representation on the island, under the pretext of alleged sonic attacks that could not be proven, limited the flow of these mutually beneficial meetings, by transferring the processes to third countries.
