Belmopan, November 12, 2024.- Former Prime Ministers Said Mussa and Dean Barrow signed a joint letter calling on the Belizean people to provide humanitarian support to the Cuban people, following the devastating events caused in several regions of the country by the passage of hurricanes Oscar and Rafael, and the earthquakes that affected the east of the country.
The appeal refers to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government on Cuba for more than 60 years, which has severely limited the living conditions of its people and the satisfaction of their basic needs, as well as its vital infrastructure, which has been further aggravated by the inclusion of Cuba in the spurious list of countries sponsoring terrorism, issued unilaterally by the United States Department of State.
The document calls on the Belizean people to show their solidarity with Cuba by contributing financial donations, non-perishable food, medicines and construction materials to help the Cuban people in this difficult time, recalling the long-standing contributions made by the Caribbean island to Belize in health, education, sports and human resource training.
