Dublin, September 21, 2020. The Secretary General of the Communist Party of Ireland, Eugene Mc Cartan and the Cuban ambassador, Hugo René Ramos Milanés, held a fraternal working meeting in which they were able to exchange extensively on current national issues in both countries, international affairs and the promotion of bilateral ties.
The Cuban ambassador reiterated the gratitude of the people and the Communist Party of Cuba for the sustained work of solidarity that the PCI has developed during these months of pandemic within the framework of the international campaign to end the criminal economic blockade imposed by the government of the United States against the Cuban people and reinforced in this period, ignoring the international clamor for an at least temporary suspension of sanctions that could deprive the peoples of the necessary resources to defeat the pandemic.
The Cuban diplomat also thanked the PCI for recognition of the international solidarity work deployed by 45 “Henry Reeve” medical brigades in 38 countries, in which more than 3,700 Cuban health professionals have collaborated in the fight against the pandemic and have saved thousands of lives. It was highlighted that this solidarity recognition strengthens a broad international chorus that recognizes the value of cooperation and human solidarity in the current circumstances, in the face of threats and intimidation launched by the Trump Administration aimed at sabotaging them.
It was also demonstrated the will of progressive organizations to join forces and raise a firm denunciation and mobilization of world public opinion, in the face of growing imperialist aggressiveness and the promotion of destabilization actions directed against sovereign nations such as Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Iran, Syria, among other nations such as the Palestinian people, whose inalienable right to build a sovereign state insists on undermining.
