Dublin, November 26, 2024. With deep sorrow, the Cuban embassy in Ireland learned of the sudden death yesterday Monday of Dr. Jack McGinley, a prominent union activist, intellectual and historian.
A great friend of Cuba and its Revolution, Jack carried out outstanding work of solidarity and cooperation with the Cuban people, participating in campaigns in defense of the Revolution and denouncing anti-Cuban aggressions, especially those related to the release of the Five Heros and the condemnation of the unjust economic and commercial blockade of the United States.
On June 12, in compliance with Presidential Decree No. 734 of December 28, 2023, on behalf of President Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez and at the proposal of the President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, in an event held at the SIPTU headquarters, the Cuban ambassador decorated his colleague Kieran Jack McGinley with the “Friendship Medal.”
The Cuban Embassy, on behalf of its Cuban comrades, wishes to express its deepest condolences to Jack's family, friends and colleagues.
Cuba will always remember him as a faithful friend who contributed reliably to the friendship between the Cuban and Irish peoples.
