Government of Belize mourns the death of Cuban Vice Prime Minister

Belmopan, September 17, 2025. The Government of Belize today expressed its "deepest condolences" for the death of Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, Cuban Vice Prime Minister and a key figure in the island's economy and diplomacy.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Cabrisas was a "distinguished statesman, diplomat, servant of the Cuban people," a "steadfast friend" of Belize, and a "champion of Caribbean and Latin American solidarity."

Cabrisas, who served as Cuba's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, was the architect of the island's foreign economic policy.

The Government of Belize recognized his central role in strengthening bilateral ties, especially in critical areas such as health, education, and diplomatic training.

The official statement included a tribute from former Belizean Foreign Minister Eamon Courtenay, who called Cabrisas "a great friend of Belize and the Caribbean," with whom he worked "always based on mutual respect, solidarity, and the pursuit of improvements for the peoples of the Global South."

The message concludes by expressing solidarity with the Cuban people and government and extending his condolences to Cabrisas's family and colleagues. (Prensa Latina)
