Government of Eswatini celebrates 15th anniversary of the Cuban Medical Brigade to the Kingdom

Pretoria, October 16, 2020.- The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini, Hon. Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini, presided over an official ceremony in the country's capital as part of the celebrations of the 15th anniversary of the Cuban Medical Brigade in the Kingdom,

The ministers of Health, Foreign Relations, and Labor and Natural Resources, and members of the National Parliament also attended the ceremony.

In his statement the Prime Minister highlighted that “as a result of our excellent diplomatic relations, Cuba has provided a Medical Brigade to the Kingdom that has contributed enormously to the improvement of public health services to the population in rural areas. These doctors also give us great help in the preparation of human resources in the health sphere.”

Likewise, he thanked the recent sending by Cuba of 19 health professionals to help in the fight against COVID-19 and develop a national strategy for the eradication of other diseases.

The Minister of Health, Hon. Lizzie Nkosi, expressed that as a result of the medical scholarships offered to the young people of Eswatini by the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, the country today has neonatologists, pediatricians, clinicians, surgeons, gynecologists and comprehensive general practitioners.

The Minister emphasized that the work of Cuban health professionals deployed in the Kingdom has been of great impact, highlighting that "the team provides valuable lessons from Cuba that we are absorbing and using to develop our programs and capacities in the country."

Dr. Kenia Monjes, head of the Cuban Brigade, made a presentation of the main results of the work after 15 years of service in the country.

As the culmination of the ceremony, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health received Cuban medical gowns and a commemorative plaque for the anniversary was unveiled. Each of the members of our Brigade received from the Eswatini authorities the traditional national costume "Lihiya", serigraphed with a congratulatory message.
