Pretoria, 29 June, 2019.- The Association of Cuban Residents in South Africa (ACRSA) held their first national meeting on June 29, in Pretoria. Presiding over the meeting were ACRSA Chairwoman Cristina Flores Fourie, the Ambassador of Cuba Rodolfo Benítez Verson; and the Secretary of Consular Affairs Liliam Tápanes Bellas.
The high commitment of the Cuban émigrés with its nation of origin was made evident at the meeting, as well as the interest to know and exchange views on the country’s current situation.
A relevant fact at the meeting was that in response to the aggressive escalation of the current US government against Cuba, which includes the reinforcement of the economic, commercial and financial blockade, the associates approved a Declaration demanding the immediate cease of these measures as they cause the worsening of shortages for the everyday life of Cuban families while exhorting the General Assembly of the United Nations to condemn once again this cruel and illegal blockade in the next session.
The meeting was attended by Cuban residents from several South African provinces, who received from the Cuban Ambassador a broad update on the Cuban Situation, the relations with South Africa and with the United States, and the Secretary for Consular Affairs referred to matters of interest regarding the consular services.
