With a masterful performance, Greek guitarist Nikos Baroutsakis took the British audience on a musical journey through the great classics of Cuban music.

Sunday, 16 March:- The Cuban Embassy in the UK was honoured to participate in an exceptional evening that fused art and music in an intimate and vibrant atmosphere. The concert, held on 16 March at the prestigious London Sketch Club, featured an outstanding performance by the renowned classical guitarist Nikos Baroutsakis, of Greek origin, who captivated the audience with a repertoire dedicated to the richness of Cuban music.

The Ambassador and other officials of the diplomatic mission enjoyed this unique evening, in which Baroutsakis demonstrated his deep bond with the musical tradition of the Island. His interpretation, full of sensitivity and virtuosity, transported the audience through the compositions of Leo Brouwer, Eduardo Martín, Ernesto Lecuona and Nico Rojas, fundamental pillars of the Cuban guitar repertoire.

The recital was part of the promotion of his most recent album, ‘A la Cubana’, recorded in the legendary Abbey Road studios as a tribute to the music of the island. In this work, Baroutsakis specially commissioned pieces from Leo Brouwer and Eduardo Martín, thus consolidating his commitment to the dissemination of Cuban music on international stages.

Among the works performed were Brouwer's energetic ‘Toccata Cubana’, Nico Rojas‘ emotive “Guajira a mi Madre” and Ignacio Cervantes’ vibrant Cuban dance, delighting the audience with the depth and dynamism of these classics.

Events such as this strengthen the ties between Cuba and the UK through art and music, consolidating the presence and prestige of Cuban culture in the international arena.
